Skills Acquired

My book talks about the importance of social mechanics in games and how these mechanics evolved over time to accommodate new technologies and new social contexts.
It looks at the innovation happening in the field of new-age social games, discussing in detail what has been learnt from designing for the younger generation, how these findings can inform game design philosophy, and how this can be applied to game development more broadly.
Labour of Love
The book took almost 3 years to write on top of my full time job as a designer. I was compelled to share my thoughts on the topic as I felt that there was nothing out there approaching the subject from the same angle I was.
My experience as a multiplayer designer has presented a good practical base for me to write this book but extensive research has gone into the making of it as well.
The book explores the subject of multiplayer as a social experience, looking at things such as online non-verbal communication, social dynamics between players, and the ethics of leveraging said social dynamics in the design of games meant to be played with others.
